About Floodplain Administration<\/h2>\n

The City of Fond du Lac is a participating community in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). In exchange for participation in the NFIP, federally backed flood insurance is made available to homeowners, renters, and business owners. To find out more about flood insurance, visit www.floodsmart.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The area of the 100-Year Floodplain is referred to as a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA). Municipal Code Chapter 690 (Floodplain Zoning) regulates property development in a Special Flood Hazard Area. The municipal code<\/a> is a searchable document. Floodplain zoning regulations apply to the construction of a new building, and to alterations and additions to existing buildings. *As a reminder, FEMA released the new Elevation Certificate (FF-206-FY22-152) on July 7, 2023 with revisions September 5, 2023, and subsequently said the previous form could be used until November 1, 2023.\u00a0 Any Elevation Certificate submitted for review dated November 1, 2023 or after must be on the new form for CRS communities. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Community Rating System<\/h2>\n

The City of Fond du Lac is a participating community of the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System (CRS). The objective of CRS is to reward communities that do more than meet the minimum NFIP requirements to help their citizens prevent or reduce flood losses. Under CRS, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reward community actions that meet goals of the program, which are (1) Reduce flood damage to insurable property; (2) Strengthen and support the insurance aspects of the NFIP; and (3) Encourage a comprehensive approach to floodplain management.<\/p>\n

The City of Fond du Lac has a Class 7 rating which allows a 15% discount for flood insurance policies in special flood hazard areas.<\/p>\n

Floodplain Maps<\/h2>\n

FEMA\u2019s Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) is the official map of the community. The maps delineate the special flood hazard areas and the risk premium zones applicable to the community. The FEMA flood hazard maps that affect the City of Fond du Lac were adopted on November 4, 2009.<\/p>\n

Flood maps may be viewed in the City of Fond du Lac Community Development office on the 4th floor of the City-County Government Center at 160 South Macy Street. Assistance in viewing and interpreting flood maps for a property location in relation to a Special Flood Hazard Area, and information for flood insurance data for a site (FIRM zone and base flood elevation) is provided during business hours. A floodzone map<\/a> is also available on the City Mapping page; users can search by entering a local address.<\/p>\n

Floodplain maps may also be viewed on the FDL County GIS mapping program. While the floodplain maps depicted on the GIS mapping program are not the official maps, the depictions may be used for approximation in locating the extent of a floodplain area.
