SENIOR OUTREACH PROGRAM

A supportive program provided to seniors by volunteer seniors. Volunteers are provided an initial training in October of each year covering resources, communication, a history of the program, and other topics. Volunteers meet monthly to discuss concerns and to receive additional training on topics of value to them and their clients. Volunteers are asked to meet with their clients weekly in person if possible and if not in person to call them. A year long commitment is requested. Clients may live in their own home, apartment, assisted living or nursing home. Each of the clients is unique and in need of someone to listen to them and touch their life in a special way. The most important ability that a volunteer needs is availability. Seniors have lifelong experiences to use to benefit others and can learn any additional skills needed to help them to reach out and touch a life. For more information call Sarah at 322-3641.

SENIOR OUTREACH SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
Are you a man or woman with a little spare time? Are you a good listener? Do you want to make a difference in the life of someone who is lonely? If so, please consider becoming a Senior Outreach volunteer! For more information, call Sarah at 322-3641.

The Senior Outreach Program is looking for caring people willing to commit an hour a week to make a difference in a lonely senior’s life. In 2015 we matched 12 seniors with volunteers. Help us break last year’s record, learn new information, make new friends, and make a difference in our community. Together we can make a difference one life at a time. We provide training, support, and suggestions to assist you. This opportunity is not only rewarding for the client - but also for the volunteer!

COMMUNITY CARES

Volunteers call on residents of a different local nursing home or assisted living facility each month to visit with residents who may not have family or friends nearby. A small gift is provided for those visited. Volunteers can be any age and may visit just one time. You can make a difference in someone's life by volunteering. This community outreach is a fun activity usually done in pairs. Your time commitment is whatever you can spare—20 minutes to 1 hour. We have a prescheduled time each month and ask that volunteers register at 322-3641 so we can notify the facility how many volunteers to expect.

Check the newsletter for details on upcoming Community Cares visits. Call the Senior Center at 322-3641 to volunteer.

TELEPHONE REASSURANCE

The Telephone Reassurance Program is for homebound senior citizens or those with limited contact with family and friends. Monday through Friday, a call is placed to individuals to check in and say “Hello.” The call is usually brief, but sometimes the Telephone Reassurance Caller will take time to chat with the senior about the weather, upcoming holidays, or what’s new.
If you would like to become a part of this program, or if you would like to refer a friend or family member, call Sarah at 322-3641.
