The City of Fond du Lac Department of Public Works is reaching out to the community to gather information regarding basement backups during weather events. The goal for obtaining this information is to better identify locations in the community where basement backups occur.
Residents who have experienced basement backups are encouraged to complete a survey form located on the City of Fond du Lac’s Website at www.fdl.wi.gov.
Surveys can be Emailed: firstname.lastname@example.org, Mailed: City Engineering, PO Box 150, Fond du Lac, WI 54936-0150, or Dropped Off: City Payment Drop Box at 160 S Macy Street, Fond du Lac.
The City’s “sanitary sewer” is a system of underground pipes that carries sewage from bathrooms, sinks, kitchens, basement drains, and other plumbing components to the Regional Wastewater Treatment & Resource Recovery Facility. The wastewater at the plant is treated and then discharged into Lake Winnebago. The sanitary sewer main is only sized to handle domestic waste flows not storm water or clear water.
Unlike the sanitary sewer, the City’s “storm sewer” is a system designed to carry rainfall runoff and other drainage but not sewage. The runoff is carried in underground pipes or open ditches and discharges (untreated) into streams or other surface water bodies.
