The city of Fond du Lac is centrally located between Wisconsin\u2019s three major cities of Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay. Fond du Lac is the hub for the major transportation routes between each of these metropolitan areas and is located no more than 70 miles from each city.\u00a0 Our agency serves the city of Fond du Lac which has a year 2010 census population of 43,021 citizens and a daytime population of 50,000.\u00a0 The added increase in daytime population is due to business, industry, and school enrollment. According to the United States Census Bureau, Fond du Lac has a total area of 20.11 square miles with 18.82 square miles being land and 1.29 square miles being water. Fond du Lac Fire \/ Rescue (FDLFR) not only provides fire protection for the city of Fond du Lac, it also delivers Advanced Life Support (paramedic) emergency medical services throughout the city and contracted areas throughout the county along with specialty properties<\/p>\n

The Fond du Lac Fire \/ Rescue directly serves the city of Fond du Lac and contractually provides EMS to one village, one commercial structure, and three townships. Fond du Lac is the three hundred forty-second largest Metropolitan Statistical Area<\/a> (MSA) in the United States. It is also the 15th<\/sup> largest city in Wisconsin.<\/p>\n

Tornado Activity<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

Fond du Lac-area historical tornado activity is above Wisconsin state average. It is 120 percent greater than the overall U.S. average. On July 18, 1996, a category F5 (maximum wind speeds 261-318 mph) tornado 5.0 miles away from the Fond du Lac city center injured 12 people and caused $40 million in damages.\u00a0 On April 21, 1974, a category F4 (maximum wind speeds 207-260 mph) tornado 19.3 miles away from the city center injured 35 people and caused between $500,000 and $5,000,000 in damages.<\/p>\n

Floods<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

On June 12, 2008, Fond du Lac experienced its worst flood since about 1924. Approximately 350 residents were rescued or had to leave their homes. The estimated cost damage of this flood to the city of Fond du Lac was $1,126,000 alone.<\/p>\n

Natural Disasters<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

The number of natural disasters in Fond du Lac County (9) is smaller than the US average (12).

Population\/Demographics<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

As of the census<\/a> of 2010, there were 43,021 people, 17,942 households, and 10,395 families residing in the city.\u00a0 The population density<\/a> was 2,285.9 inhabitants per square mile (882.6 \/km2<\/sup>). \u00a0The population density was computed by; for each block, dividing the population recorded for that block by the geographic size of the block.<\/p>\n

The median age in the city was 36.9 years. Twenty-two and six-tenths percent of residents were under the age of 18; ten and one-tenth percent were between the ages of 18 and 24; twenty-seven and four-tenths percent were from 25 to 44; twenty-five and two-tenths percent were from 45 to 64; and fourteen and seven-tenths percent were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.7 percent male and 52.3 percent female.<\/p>\n<\/div>
