The Apprentice will assist various staff members with a variety of plant operation, maintenance, and lab duties.<\/p>\n<div class=\"md:col-span-8 sm:col-span-11 sm:col-start-2 col-span-12\">\n<div class=\"w-full bg-white sm:mt-6 mt-4 rounded-2xl sm:px-10 px-5 sm:pt-10 pt-5 sm:pb-2 pb-1\">\n<p>Scheduled hours up to 450 total are allowed.<\/p>\n<p>Facility Operational Hours: Monday \u2013 Thursday 6:30 a.m. \u2013 3:30 p.m.; Friday 6:30 a.m. \u2013 10:30 a.m.; and Saturday\/Sunday 7:00 a.m. \u2013 12:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The pay rate is $15.36\/hour.<\/p>\n<div id=\"text\" class=\"lg:text-[28px] lg:leading-tight sm:text-xl sm:leading-tight text-lg leading-tight text-neutral-600 font-serif sm:*:mb-6 *:mb-4\">\n<p><strong>Various duties and responsibilities include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Influent<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contribute to normal daily maintenance cleaning the influent wetwell, fine screens, grit washer, and\/or screening conveyors and raking the roll-off. (Hands-on opportunity)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Primary Treatment<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scum Pit Cleaning \u2013 learn the method of scum pit cleaning under the direction of the operator.<\/li>\n<li>Pump Activation \u2013 learn the primary pumping procedures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Secondary Treatment<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mixed Liquor Solids \u2013 learn how to use a settleometer and calculate the SVI as well as learn the operation of a microscope for performing microbial analysis on a daily basis to determine the diverse health and activity of mixed liquor.<\/li>\n<li>RAS\/WAS Pump Operation \u2013 view methodology of RAS and WAS Pump Operation; make adjustments to the RAS and WAS rates under the direction of the Operator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Sampling<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Daily sampling for both operation and lab analysis; directly involved with aeration basin profiling for phosphorus, ammonia, nitrates, dissolved oxygen and COD.<\/li>\n<li>pH Analysis \u2013 learn the methods of pH analysis and calibration using the laboratory pH meter; be responsible for performing and recording pH during rounds with an operator including digester, mixed liquor and effluent.<\/li>\n<li>Sludge Depth Measurement \u2013 view methodology of sludge depth measurements and responsible for performing the measurements under the direction of a treatment plant operator both in the primary and secondary clarifiers, and learn how to make operational decisions based off the measurements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Sludge Handling<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Centrifuge Operations \u2013 learn all aspects of centrifuge operation and perform sampling and testing for total solids using a moisture analyzer under the direction of the Operator. Additionally, be involved in polymer preparation and conveying the biosolids into roll-offs for disposal.<\/li>\n<li>Digesters \u2013 assist the Operator with digester rounds including checking digester levels, pH and completing the log sheet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Biogas Engine<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>System Maintenance and Monitoring \u2013 There is a 450 kW Biogas Engine on site and monitoring includes checking temperatures, pressures and levels of associated equipment to ensure smooth and efficient operation.<\/li>\n<li>Gas Cleaning and Monitoring \u2013 learn about the biogas cleaning equipment, gas analysis and associated equipment log sheets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Laboratory<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Learn wastewater laboratory techniques and spend time with the laboratory staff (job shadow and hands on opportunities.)<\/li>\n<li>Analyses learned will include at minimum total suspended solids, ammonia, total phosphorus, biochemical oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enrolled in high school classes pertaining to natural resources, sciences, biology, and\/or chemistry.<\/li>\n<li>Displays interest in considering furthering education with a degree in previously mentioned studies.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in a physical exam and drug-screening test (City paid).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>How to Apply:<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in this opportunity, please submit required materials based on the requirements of the job description by emailing <a href=\"mailto:jbraatz@fdl.wi.gov\">Jackie Braatz<\/a> .
