History<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The Fond du Lac Police K-9 Unit was established in May of 1995 after Officer Steve Klein approached former Chief Dan Bord with the K-9 concept. Due to lack of available funding, Officer Klein needed to approach the community for assistance. The Fond du Lac Community responded. In a short time, several businesses and corporations donated over $14,000 to fund the department\u2019s first K-9.\u00a0 <\/span>K-9 Zeiko<\/span><\/b> and Officer Steve Klein immediately proved their value to the Department and community with a number of finds and apprehensions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span>Today FDLPD has six (6) K-9\u2019s in active service:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

K-9 Brux (Officer Kyle Hoefer)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0In April 2016, Officer Kyle Hoefer was partnered with\u202fK-9 Brux<\/span>,<\/span><\/b>\u202fa German Shepherd who was born in the Czech Republic. Brux was brought to the United States through Steinig Tal Kennels in Campbellsport (WI) where Hoefer attended an intensive K-9 handler course under the direction of Larry Filo. Following this course, Officer\u202fHoefer and K-9\u202fBrux\u202fbegan working patrol in the City of Fond du Lac May 10, 2016,\u202fand continue to train regularly at Steinig Tal K-9 Police Academy where they also certify each year.\u00a0 K-9 Brux is a certified dual-purpose police dog trained in drug detection, tracking, and protection.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

K-9 Lex<\/span><\/b> (Officer Charles Beckford)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0In\u202fAugust 2020, Officer\u202fCharles Beckford was partnered with\u202fK-9 Lex, a 1-year old German Shepherd who was born in the Germany.\u202fK-9 Lex was brought to the United States through Steinig Tal Kennels in Campbellsport (WI) where\u202fOfficer Beckford attended an intensive K-9 handler course under the direction of Larry Filo. Following this course, Officer\u202fBeckford and K-9\u202fLex\u202fbegan working patrol in the City of Fond du Lac\u202fOctober 5, 2020,\u202fand continue to train regularly at Steinig Tal K-9 Police Academy where they also certify each year.\u00a0 K-9 Lex\u202fis a certified dual-purpose police dog trained in drug detection, tracking, and protection.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0In\u202fApril 2022, Officer\u202fMatt Burr was partnered with\u202fK-9 Gambo, a 2-year old German Shepherd who was born in Germany.\u202fK-9 Gambo was brought to the United States through Steinig Tal Kennels in Campbellsport (WI) where\u202fOfficer Burr attended an intensive K-9 handler course under the direction of Larry Filo. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0In July 2022, Officer Ben Hardgrove was partnered with K-9 Jesus, a 16-month-old German Shepherd who was born in Bulgaria.\u00a0 Following initial training in Hungary, K-9 Jesus was brought to the United States through Jessiffany Canine Services, LLC in Iron Ridge (WI) where Officer Hardgrove attended an intensive K-9 handler course under the direction of Jessie and Tiffany Smith.\u00a0 Following this course, Officer Hardgrove and K-9 Jesus began working patrol in the City of Fond du Lac August 18, 2022, and continue to train regularly at Jessiffany Canine Services, LLC.\u00a0 K-9 Jesus is a dual-purpose police dog trained in drug detection, tracking, and protection.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

K-9 Hiro (Officer Conner Delveaux)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0In December 2025, <\/span>Officer\u202fConner Delveaux was partnered with\u202fK-9 Hiro, a\u00a01-year-old\u00a0German Shepherd who was born in\u00a0the\u00a0Czech\u00a0Republic.\u202fK-9 Hiro was brought to the United States through Steinig Tal Kennels in Campbellsport (WI) and underwent\u202fan intensive K-9 handler course under the direction of Steinig Tal K9 Police Academy in Fond du Lac (WI). Following this course, Officer\u202fDelveaux\u00a0and K-9 Hiro\u202fbegan working patrol in the City of Fond du Lac\u202fin February 2026 and continue to train regularly at Steinig Tal K-9 Police Academy, where they also certify each year.\u00a0 K-9 Hiro\u202fis a certified dual-purpose police dog trained in drug detection, tracking, protection, and apprehension.<\/p>\n
