{"id":516,"date":"2026-10-05T14:44:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-05T19:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fdl.wi.gov\/public-works\/?p=516"},"modified":"2026-10-05T14:44:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T19:44:08","slug":"psa-2026-leaf-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fdl.wi.gov\/public-works\/psa-2026-leaf-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"PSA &#8211; 2026 Leaf Collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>2026 LEAF COLLECTION<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Department of Public Works<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Public Service Announcement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The City of Fond du Lac\u2019s annual leaf collection will begin on Monday October 19, 2026, with crews starting in the northeast section of the city.\u00a0 The collection will proceed in a clockwise direction \u2013 to the southeast, southwest, and northwest sections. The crews typically will be able to make three complete rounds of the city during the October and November months.<\/p>\n<p>For collection purposes, Main Street divides the city into east and west halves, and Western Avenue and Fourth Street divides the city into north and south halves.<\/p>\n<p>The map will be available on the City\u2019s website indicating the progress collection crews have made to date. Beginning Monday, October 19, visit the City\u2019s website at http:\/\/www.fdl.wi.gov\/ and click on \u201cLeaf Collection Progress Map\u201d under \u201cImportant Notices\u201d. The map will show which areas have been covered by collection crews, and arrows will indicate which direction the crews will be moving. The map will be updated toward the end of each work day.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Works Department anticipates that crews will complete at least three clockwise sweeps through the city this fall, weather permitting. During the first round of collection, raking by the crew is limited. During the third pass, more attention is paid to final cleanup. <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Additional cleanup beyond the three sweeps through the city is NOT guaranteed!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As an alternative to the collection, residents may haul their leaves to the City\u2019s yard waste drop off site located on the north side of the Municipal Service Center located at 530 Doty Street.\u00a0 Bags must be emptied and disposed of properly at the site.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leaves should be raked in rows next to the curb for collection by City crews.<\/li>\n<li><strong>As a <u>REMINDER<\/u> City Code prohibits leaves and other materials to be placed in the street or sidewalks. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>City crews will not pick up leaves in plastic bags.<\/li>\n<li>Park vehicles and garbage carts away from leaf windrows.<\/li>\n<li>Your garbage cart is for garbage only. <strong>Do not<\/strong> place leaves inside the automated garbage collection carts.<\/li>\n<li>Cut garden material such as vines and corn stalks into lengths of one foot or less.<\/li>\n<li>Fruit and vegetables (such as apples or pumpkins) will not be collected. These should be disposed of at the City\u2019s yard waste drop off site on Doty Street.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some streets may be still under construction throughout our collection timeline. City crews will make every effort to get into those areas still under construction.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;color: #ff0000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Annual leaf collection will end on Friday, December 11<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/strong> <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Any leaves needing to be disposed of after that date MUST be brought to the City\u2019s yard waste drop-off site as collection will not be extended.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000\"><strong><u>A Green Alternative: Leave \u2018em Lay<\/u><\/strong><strong>!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As an alternative to raking leaves to the curb, residents are encouraged to try mulching up moderate amounts of leaves with a lawnmower. This can be done during normal lawn mowing. Just don\u2019t allow the leaves to mat and make sure that ample grass shows through them. This will save you work and time, add nutrients to your lawn, reduce windblown leaves in your neighborhood and reduce the amount of labor and fuel the City needs to use for leaf collection.
