The City of Fond du Lac Police Department’s Detective Bureau is made up of:
· Six (6) Detectives
· One (1) Narcotics Investigator (Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group – LWAM Drug Unit)
· Two (2) Community Impact Police Specialists
The Detective Bureau is charged with complex and specialized investigations which require more time or resources. This includes burglaries, sexual assaults, arson, robbery, death investigations, homicide, internet crimes against children (ICAC), financial crimes, forgery, fraud, and more.
Detectives also take part in several Federal Investigative Task Forces. A Detective may be assigned to a task force and acts as a liaison between the Federal Agency and the FDLPD. These partnerships provide FDLPD with additional benefits by having access to federal resources, federal prosecution, asset forfeiture sharing, and reimbursement for overtime and investigative expenses.
The FDLPD contributes one (1) Investigator to the Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group (MEG) Drug unit. The MEG Unit is a multi-agency task force supervised by a Special Agent from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, who specializes in narcotics enforcement. MEG investigators target individuals who are supplying illegal drugs in Fond du Lac, Winnebago, Outagamie, and Calumet Counties, and often work undercover to accomplish their mission.
The Community Impact Police Specialist Unit (CIU) contributes two (2) specialists to assist with MEG Unit investigations and violent crime reduction programs. The CIU also focuses on narcotics interdiction and suppression, traffic enforcement and education, human trafficking investigations, neighborhood engagement activities, quality of life issues, and weapon violence to name a few.
The FDLPD also contributes Detectives to Wisconsin’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force which is administered through the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation. Many ICAC investigations require extensive multi-agency collaboration with local, state, and sometimes federal partners.
