The City of Fond du Lac is accepting submissions for the position of Junior Network Engineer within the Information Technology Services Department. This full-time position actively contribute to the growth and management of the Information Technology team and infrastructure, and plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the City of Fond du Lac, including assisting in the planning, design, 24×7 management, configuration, and coordination of the corporate LAN/WAN. Additionally, this position is responsible for installation, configuration and maintenance of systems hardware and software.

The Junior Network Engineer demonstrates effective and efficient work in a dynamic office environment with a focus on meeting deadlines, and requires handling multiple priorities amid frequent interruptions utilizing essential organizational skills, a sense of urgency, sound decision-making abilities, and task prioritization for success in the role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties and hours may be required and assigned to conduct City services, including nights and/or weekends.
• Assist in designing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining local and wide area networks (LAN and WAN), including routers, switches, firewalls, IP Cameras, VPN access, virtual and physical servers, IP phones, routers, and wireless
• Assist in the evaluation of advanced LAN/WAN hardware and software requirements, aligning them with user needs and contributing to the coordination of installations
• Assist in planning, organizing, and testing procedures for problem management, disaster recovery, and network and system changes
• Assist in maintenance and documentation of critical infrastructure assets such as city-owned fiber assets
• Maintain and enforce security compliance based on industry standards and best practices.
• Support and troubleshoot enterprise and departmental software, hardware, applications and user-related problems.
• Support project management activities, including scoping, troubleshooting, problem resolution, documentation, and customer management.
• Participate and complete special projects such as major upgrades and new enterprise applications
• Provide scheduled on-call and 24×7 technical support as part of an on-call rotation.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Technical computer support background with four years’ experience in networking and troubleshooting computer problems (hardware/software) OR
• Associates Degree/Bachelor’s Degree in computer networking or computer information systems plus experience in networking and computer troubleshooting

SALARY RANGE: We offer a competitive compensation package ($32.53 – $37.18/hour) based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities with potential to receive additional step increases based on meeting and/or exceeding goals/expectations; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.
