The City of Fond du Lac utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to manage and analyze data sets that have geographic relationships. This allows for the efficient delivery of services to citizens. A GIS is a computer-based system that links locational and database information (i.e. “geospatial” data), enabling users to visualize patterns, relationships, and trends. GIS provides the ability to answer questions that would otherwise be challenging to solve.
The City maintains numerous GIS data sets, and also utilizes data from outside sources, such as Fond du Lac County. Both the City and County work together wherever possible in order to promote efficiency, productivity, and minimize costs. In example, the City and County coordinate in maintaining and sharing land record data, as well as with contracting airborne data collections for imagery and LiDAR.
