The City of Fond du Lac is accepting applications for the Facilities Maintenance Technician position. This full-time position reports directly to the Operations Superintendent and is an extremely versatile position that requires a variety of vocational skills relating to the building trades.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Construction/remodeling of existing facilities : Carpentry (Rough and finish), HVAC, plumbing, masonry, light electrical, landscaping, windows and doors, concrete, and restoration (proficient at completing efficiently and to construction standards.)
  • Independent worker with excellent time management.
  • Design accurate plans and coordinate with the division whose facility is being worked on.
  • Safety is critical as most work is completed while regular operations within the facility are happening.
  • Utilize lockout-tagout procedures for and maintain a clean, organized and appropriate worksite for the safety of them and others within the area.
  • Conduct regular-scheduled inspections of building systems such as Overhead doors HVAC filters and other amenities within a facility and keep accurate records for auditing purposes as well as certain federal compliances (such as Transit).
  • Assist in every other aspect of the Construction and Maintenance Division as well as Electrical Division. This includes Winter Road Maintenance Operations (using Patrol Truck with Side Mount Wing and Salter & Wheel Loader), Emergency response, concrete, asphalt, tree and grounds, general road repairs, and storm and sanitary utility work/repairs.
  • Road and Utility Construction
  • Design, Read and Organize plans for projects at multiple facilities within the City
  • Scheduled maintenance inspections and repairs of facilities
  • Cleaning and basic equipment maintenance
  • Emergency Response (Sewer Backups, Vehicle Accidents, Spills, Police and Fire Will-Call)
  • Set up and Maintain Safe Work Zones
  • Mentor and provide assistance to co-workers regarding facilities maintenance

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent with emphasis on vocational studies preferred
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Commercial “Class A” Driver’s License without air brakes restriction, and with tanker endorsement.
  • Municipal operations experience preferred

SALARY RANGE: We offer a competitive compensation package ($27.43 – $29.29/hour) based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities with potential to receive additional step increases based on meeting and/or exceeding goals/expectations; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.
