The Fond du Lac Water Utility is taking steps to minimize lead levels in your drinking water.  While lead is not found in Fond du Lac’s well water, lead may enter drinking water if it dissolves from lead water service lines, internal plumbing, or fixtures containing lead, especially when water stands unused for several hours.

Lead service lines were typically installed before 1950.  Lead pipes are dull gray in color and are soft enough to be easily scratched with a house key.  Also, a magnet will not stick to a lead pipe.  Water service lines are broken up into two sections.  The public side and the private side.  Click HERE for a diagram.  If you’re interested in finding out if your home has a public lead service line see the Public Side Lead Service Lateral Map.  If you would like assistance in determining if your home has a private lead service line (PLSL) please call the Water Business Office at (920)322-3680 or click HERE to schedule an appointment online for a Meter Service Technician to stop by and help determine your private water service material.
