The Community Risk Reduction Division is staffed by a Division Chief and a Community Risk Reduction Specialist.   The Community Risk Reduction Division is responsible for the inspection of commercial and industrial property, interpretation of fire prevention codes and ordinances concerning the properties, presenting talks and demonstrations relative to fire prevention and public education, investigating activities and related follow-up to arson investigations, and reviewing all plans for construction to ensure compliance with the proper fire and life safety codes within the city.

The division performs an average of 60 investigations, 2,650 inspections, and 240 public education visits per year.

The initiatives of the Community Risk Reduction Specialist includes fire safety education and community outreach. Under the direction of the Division Chief the Community Risk Reduction Specialist performs a variety of professional duties including developing fire safety education, awareness and injury prevention programs for all community members.  This position also assists with fire safety inspections and suppression testing.
